Caranua is here to improve the lives of survivors of institutional abuse, by helping with their health, housing and education needs.
If you are a relative or friend of a survivor and want to help them with their application or provide them with more information, then this section will help you.
Making an application
What do I need to know about applying for a friend or relative?
I know someone who I think may be able to benefit from Caranua. How do I get them some information?
Our Application Form Part 1 contains information on what we do, and how to make an application. We can send you out this form if you contact us, or you can download it here.
Can I apply on behalf of someone else?
The confidentiality of survivors who apply to us is very important. For this reason we never share or discuss information about any individual, without their written permission. However, we understand that some people may want another person to deal with us on their behalf. In this instance someone can become the ‘Nominated Person’ for an applicant. When you are someone’s ‘Nominated Person’, Caranua will deal with you instead of with the applicant, in relation to all aspects of their application.
Can I ask Caranua some general questions about what you do, so I can pass the information on?
Yes, we are happy to answer general questions about what we can and cannot do with relatives and friends of survivors. It is information on an individual application that we cannot answer without the applicant’s written permission. Please call (1800 212477 from Ireland, 0808 234 1303 from the United Kingdom and +353 1 8742277 from outside Ireland and the UK) or email us with your questions.
You may also find our information and guidelines booklets useful. We have three separate information booklets depending on where you live which can be downloaded below. If you have any problems downloading this information, or would rather that we send you a copy, that’s no problem. Just contact us and we will post them out to you.
