Letter to Survivors from Rachel Downes CEO, November 2020

November 2020

Dear Survivors,

I hope you are all keeping well.

We are now moving into the final months of Caranua’s work. This means we are no longer accepting applications for funding supports. Our work over the last year has focussed on ensuring as many survivors as possible had the opportunity to apply for funding supports. In particular, we focussed on engaging with survivors who had not received funding supports or who had previously received minimal funding supports from Caranua.

In the next few months, we are finalising the operations of Caranua while preparing to close on Thursday, 31st December 2020. The remaining survivors’ applications are in progress, individual timelines are in place for receiving paperwork and these applications will soon be complete. The final funding support payments will be processed by 11th December 2020.

Caranua is aware of the sensitivity about access to personal data and would like to assure survivors that we do not hold any information about their personal history, their involvement with a particular institution(s) or their redress experience.

The types of files that Caranua stores relate only to applications for funding support, including quotations for services, invoices, copies of ID documents and utility bills. Caranua does not hold any physical documents we save files on a secure cloud-based file management system.

Following consultation with the Data Protection Commission, Caranua agrees that to respect individual privacy when the organisation closes permanently case files will be deleted.

Caranua has and will continue to provide copies of case files to individuals as requested.

I will continue to update you as we get nearer to the closure date.
