This section will answer your questions on how to start your application to Caranua
Who can apply for the Fund?
Only people who have received awards through the Redress Board, Irish courts or settlements with religious congregations can apply.
How do people apply?
The first thing to do is to fill and return to us an Application Part 1. These are available from Caranua. They are also on display and available to take from a number of community based services in Ireland, such as Citizens Information Services and GP services, from survivor support groups, Irish welfare organisations in the UK and from Irish embassies across the world. For more information on how to apply go the Make an Application tab on this website.
I’ve sent in my Application Form Part 1, how long before I hear from you?
We will be back in contact with you within ten working days about your eligibility to apply and the next steps.
What do I need to do if I received an award through a court or settlement?
If you received an award through a court or settlement, we need to see a copy of this. So please send this with your form.
What do I need to do if my award was from the Redress Board?
If you got an award from Redress, you don’t need to send us anything. We have the list of people who received awards from the Redress Board and can check if you are on this.
Can relatives apply?
No. We are not allowed under our legislation to help anyone other than people who have received awards from a court, settlement or the Redress Board. Relatives of people who received awards are not eligible to apply.
Is my confidentiality protected?
We will only share your information if it helps us to meet your needs. and will never do this unless we have your permission.
If I don’t live in Ireland now can I apply?
Yes, once you are eligible to apply you can apply from where ever you live.
I sent all the documents, (Part 1, Part 2 and supporting documentation) together to Caranua. Will my application be processed?
On request, an applicant can receive all the required application documents together. If your documentation is complete, your application will be processed in date order to await the appointment of an Advisor whom you must engage with. If there is information missing from your application, you will receive a letter informing you of this. This letter will provide you with details of how Caranua will manage your application. Please note: your application is not ‘fast-tracked’ and will be placed in date order of receipt.
