This section will answer your questions on the application process with Caranua
Who can apply for the Fund?
Only people who have received awards through the Redress Board, Irish courts or settlements with religious congregations can apply.
Did Caranua close on 1st August 2018?
No. Caranua did not closing on 1st August 2018.
Caranua asked survivors who had not yet applied for support funding to send in their application form to us by Wednesday 1st August 2018 to ensure that their application could be processed.
I did not apply to Caranua before the deadline, what do I do now?
Please contact us as soon as possible. You can contact us by phone, email or post. Our office hours are 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Caranua can offer support, information, advice and advocacy services to survivors. The help we provide will depend on the needs and circumstances of each survivor eligible to apply to Caranua
To be eligible to apply, you must have spent time in an institution as a child, and received an award through settlement, Court or the Residential
What do I need to do if I received an award through a court or settlement?
If you received an award through a court or settlement, we need to see a copy of this. So please send this with your form.
What do I need to do if my award was from the Redress Board?
If you got an award from Redress, you don’t need to send us anything. We have the list of people who received awards from the Redress Board and can check if you are on this.
Can relatives apply?
No. We are not allowed under our legislation to help anyone other than people who have received awards from a court, settlement or the Redress Board. Relatives of people who received awards are not eligible to apply.
Is my confidentiality protected?
We will only share your information if it helps us to meet your needs. and will never do this unless we have your permission.
If I don’t live in Ireland now can I apply?
Yes, once you are eligible to apply you can apply from where ever you live.
I sent all the documents, (Part 1, Part 2 and supporting documentation) together to Caranua. Will my application be processed?
On request, an applicant can receive all the required application documents together. If your documentation is complete, your application will be processed in date order to await the appointment of an Advisor whom you must engage with. If there is information missing from your application, you will receive a letter informing you of this. This letter will provide you with details of how Caranua will manage your application. Please note: your application is not ‘fast-tracked’ and will be placed in date order of receipt.
